I Like You

I Like You.

Music and lyrics by Jack Deremiah

I like you,

you make me smile,

you make the clouds all turn and miss me by a mile.

You’re the best that ever way,

near as I can tell,

A little of your laughter leaves me ringing like a bell,

I like you.

I like you,

you’re pretty great,

to know you’re there tomorrow I can hardly wait.

You’re a shiny copper penny

in the bottom of the pool,

A double dipper sundae on the final day of school,

I like you.

(whistle verse)

You’re the kind of friend I need

to get me through each day,

You’re cool, you’re neat, you’re really sweet

and all I have to say,

Is I like you.

I like you,

you make me laugh,

you’re silly smile is just a giggle and a half,

When you walk into the room

I know the air is fit to breath,

Until you turn to go, you know that I will never leave,

I like you

I like you,

I like you,

I like you.

John's Garage

John’s Garage

Music and lyrics by Jack Deremiah

v

He works away his days for the Union,

cuttin’ steel like his daddy did before,

Smoked meat is his holy communion,

he don’t understand why some folks ask for more.

v

He ain’t worn a tie since he was twenty,

His Carhart coat goes everywhere he needs.

Two pair of boots turned out to be plenty,

And knuckles that don’t tell him when they bleed.

c

And John’s got his garage the way he likes it,

A swivel chair and a Kenmore full of beer,

Miller High Life on the neon sign,

The stereo plays old Jon Prine,

And if you’re looking you can find him here.

v

Him and Patty raised their kids with manners,

It seems like they have always had some dogs,

But they’re not the kind to march around with banners,

They’d rather sit and watch the cracklin’ logs

v

And they ain’t wrote the jazz that he can sit through,

He likes the ones where the singer plays guitar,

And if you don’t know him yet, you might not get to.

Unless you agree Todd Snyder is a star

c

And John’s got his garage the way he likes it,

A fresh cold beer is just eight steps away,

He’s an aging Peter Pan,

The soul of everyman

All he asks is just a quiet day.

One Shoe

One Shoe

v

One shoe,

It’s just not right

How’d you end up all alone tonight

Where in the world is your natural mate

How’d you find in a singular state

c

From the day you were created it was meant to be

It’s silly if you think there was a doubt

You’re only half of nature’s synchronicity

And teamwork is what you’re all about

v

Dunb shoe,

How’d you get to be here

You’ll get nowhere without your partner near

You’ll get no bookings as a solo act

You’re one of two, a mathematical fact

c

Didn’t you study your history

And how we work together to go far

From the sandal to the skate it’s not a mystery

There’s no fun with just one bumper car

Short instrumental

c

The present has a way of being hard to judge

The past is just a book already read

The future is a window with a great big smudge

You have to lead or else you will be led

v

One shoe,

You silly thing

A bird would fly in circles with just one wing

But with a little help you can soon bounce back

Let me lend a hand and get you back on track

One shoe.  Dumb shoe.  Poor shoe.

Ten Ways To Texas

This was just an exercise in playing with numbers and colors.

10 Ways To Texas

©2012 Jack Deremiah

I got 1 set of principles

But 2 ways of looking at them

3 bald tires that I ride,

I got 4 personalities

But 5 of them’s crazy,

And 6 empty beer cans by my side

I got 7 or 8 of my 9 lives left

But where ever this country boy may roam,

The closer it gets me,

The more it effects me,

There’s gotta be

10 ways to Texas and home.

We got 2 kinds of girls,

4 kinds of pretty,

6 different seasons in one,

We got 8 kinds of snakes,

10 kinds of skeeters,

And a dozen ways to turn your night to fun,

We got 14 good teams,

and 16 big dreams,

That each man and woman can own,

We got 18 ways to hoot,

Wearing 20 kinds of boots,

There must be,

10 ways to Texas and home.

Bridge:

There’s brick roads out of Oklahoma

Gravel roads Louisiana way,

Arkansas has tar that will cling to your car

But every road will get you where I stay

We got blue water flying

Under a big yellow sun

That makes me all red in half a day,

We got black water churnin’

Green fields turnin’

Chasing my brown funk away,

In my favorite purple pants

I’ll do a short lived violet dance

That’s turning my Mamma’s hair grey

The evening sky is pink,

But the white line is my link,

There must be 10 ways to Texas and home,

10 ways to Texas and home.

Lovely Ice Cream

Lovely Ice Cream

v

Some might call me crazy

and some might not agree

But I cannot deny the things

That make old me be me

I surely know what I like

What makes me feel supreme

My deepest, darkest, secret love

Is a gallon of Ice Cream

Chorus:

Oh, Ice Cream

Lovely Ice Cream

It’s in the freezer case.

That’s me with the giant scooper

And a smile that’s frozen on my face

v

Don’t ask my favorite flavor

Certain blend or brand

It’s bargain bin or premium plus

Whatever is at hand,

I cover it with Hershey sauce

And whipped cream all the way

And maybe even a tiny flag

Just in case it’s Veteran’s Day

Chorus:

Oh, Ice Cream

Lovely Ice Cream

Morning, night and noon

Hurry up and fix a cup

Do not fret cause I got my own spoon

Bridge

Chocolate, vanilla, pralines and cream,

Black forest sundae, banana supreme,

Cherry, strawberry, pistachio, mint,

Rocky road, horny toad and belly button lint

Frozen, whipped and pasteurized

Nothing can compare,

I’ll be your best friend evermore,

If you got a bowl to spare,

Chorus:

Oh Ice Cream

Lovely Ice Cream

It will be the death of me

But I want to die in a Dairy Queen

Bury me underneath a cherry tree.

Daddy Knows

Daddy Knows

Once upon a time your Dad was young

Seems to me like it was yesterday

So many loves songs waiting to be sung

And great romance seemed so far away

But life is like a diamond in the earth

Only time and pressure make it so

But in the end you see what it was worth

And how each tiny seed you plant can grow

Daddy knows, my son, Daddy knows

Daddy sees every ache in your soul

I wish I could steal every pain you feel

But I must let them heal on their own

Daddy sees, my son, Daddy sees

Sometimes life puts us to our knees

And I hope you see we can make it be

But there’s no guarantee and Daddy knows

You are such a wonderful young man

I’m so proud of you that I could bust

You have got the whole world in your hands

I wish there was a future I could trust

I know at times I’m slow to show my love

So slow sometimes you hardly know it’s there

Like dust you cannot catch a basket of

But over time you’ll find it everywhere

Daddy knows, my son, Daddy knows

Daddy sees every sting as it grows

I would draw you close and chase every ghost

But to help the most I must be still

Daddy cries, my son, Daddy cries

Sometimes all alone in disguise

May you grow to be what I know I see

But there’s no guarantee and Daddy knows

The Only Girl I Love

The Only Girl I Love

©2012 Jack Deremiah

I detect you in the atmosphere

A lingering scent that tells me you where here

And in that breath I see it all so clear

To tell the tale,

I did inhale

You are the only girl I love.

I heard someone laughing just like you,

In that funny little way you do

So I went and told a joke or two

Just to hear

You in my ear

You are the only girl I love.

Each dark night belongs to you,

Just like every cloudless blue

And everything that I do,

Brings back you

(instrumental)

They said a shooting star and I closed my eyes,

Cause I have everything I need

I bid my saved up wishes all goodbye

You are the song

I’ve needed so long

You are the only girl I love.

You are the only girl I love.
